It’s the first Scottish show for Rob Ryan, who is best known for his delicate cut paper artworks, which incorporate his own poetic texts into superbly detailed silhouetted designs. Long ago, they caught Gillian’s eye.

She said: “I’ve liked his work over the years and though it would work well in the gallery in the landscape of Callendar Park. I saw he had a big exhibition last year at Yorkshire Sculpture Park and approached him to exhibit here and he agreed. I’m excited!”

This free exhibition features a collection of charming and intricate papercuts, prints and ceramics spanning the last six years of the artist’s career.

Although he views himself first and always as a fine artist, his intricate papercut work adapts itself readily to screenprinting which can be easily transferred to ceramics, fabrics, lasercutting and other surfaces.

He has collaborated with famous institutions and individuals including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Fortnum and Mason and Tatty Devine.

Collectors of his work include film director Tim Burton and his ex-wife, actress Helena Bonham Carter. They have said of his work: “Rob Ryan cuts out dreams and stories and worlds that enchant and remind us of the first movie makers.

The artist has also written and illustrated books and collaborated with Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy to illustrate her first children’s book. There will also be free paper cutting sessions for children to accompany this exhibition.
