A crafty youngster’s creative flair won her three awards in this year’s Polmont flower show.
Eleven-year-old Chloe Ashe from Polmont won the The Tom Conley Memorial Cup, The Thomson Trophy and The Barbara Purves Memorial trophy for her handicraft creations of figures of animals made out of vegetables, paintings and a miniature garden which wowed judges at Polmont Sports Centre last Saturday.
Treasurer Janet Anderson said that while the summer wasn’t ideal for growing flowers and vegetables, entrants still managed to offer impressive displays of horticultural specimens.
She said: “The summer weather obviously did affect things, certainly dahlia entries were down, but there was still plenty of great flowers, vegetables, home baking and handicrafts on show as usual and the attendance was very good considering it was a holiday weekend.
“We’d like to thank everyone who helped make it another great year from the staff at the sports centre, visitors, volunteers, sponsors, Falkirk Council and the people from the community payback scheme who helped set things up.”
Trophy winners included: Most First Prizes in Show (John McLaren Salver): M and M Muszynski; Best Exhibit (Whiteside Builders Trophy and Falkirk Council Trophy): Mr F Thomson; Polmont Horticultural Society Trophy for Best Exhibit: Mr A Allan.
