Highest honour for top Scout

Being able to lead and be part of a team has helped a Falkirk Scout achieve a boyhood dream.

Graeme Galloway travelled to London to receive the Queen’s Scout Award from Chief Scout Bear Grylls and HRH Prince Michael of Kent.

To earn the accolade, the 22-year-old Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award holder, had to complete a number of character building challenges, learn new skills and show high standards of discipline and motivation.

As part of his ‘quest’ for the highest honour in Scouting he travelled to Iceland to take part in a project studying a glacial flood.

Graeme, leader of the Cross Explorer Unit in Larbert where he also helps run the 62nd Scouts, said: “Gaining my Queen’s Scout Award is an amazing feeling.

“Scouting has had a huge influence on my life, giving me opportunities that would not have been possible otherwise and been a great boost to my confidence. I’ve learned so much and met so many new friends.

“The expedition to Iceland was incredible, especially hiking in the northern part of the country. It was an amazing opportunity and I’m now planning to take my Scouts there so they can experience it too.”

The former Stirling University student works at the luxury Cromlix House Hotel in Perthshire owned by tennis ace Andy Murray.
