Members of Falkirk Operatic Society say they are thrilled to be performing the Scottish premiere of one of the greatest love stories ever told.
‘The Slipper and the Rose’ - the musical story of Cinderella - is being brought to Falkirk Town Hall next month when Prince Edward (Darren Tasker) will make sure he’s found the right girl (Suzanne Garner) by slipping on a shoe.
We really hope people come along and see this production for themselves as it really is special on so many levels
It’s not only the first time the production has been performed by an amateur drama group north of the border, but it’s also the first time in living memory Falkirk Operatic has performed a premiere.
And, as Hollywood releases a remake of the fairytale for the silver screen, the hype behind this timeless story has never been higher.
Carol Sutherland, President of FOS said: “Everyone is extremely excited, and the cast are really throwing themselves into it.
“This is a beautiful show filled with great songs, comedy, a little sadness but it all comes together for a happy ending.
“Our members are aged between 14 and 70 so this production is perfect for us, and the casting suits their strengths.
“We have a handsome prince, a beautiful Cinderella, a charismatic king and queen, and excellent sisters although they are certainly not ugly.”
FOS began in 1903, and ‘The Slipper and the Rose’ will be the society’s 92nd production.
The amateur show is a National Operatic and Dramatic Association production, and since it is the first time ‘The Slipper and The Rose’ has been performed in Scotland, FOS is looking forward to the freedom of adding its own style. Carol added: “We, of course, have to follow guidelines, but we are looking forward to putting our own interpretation on this production, and we hope that we will be judged by that.
“Also this is very much a show for all the family, and this is the first year that we have introduced a family ticket.
“We really hope people come along and see this production for themselves as it really is special on so many levels.”
‘The Slipper and the Rose’ will run at Falkirk Town Hall from Tuesday, April 21 to Saturday. April 25 at 7.30 p.m. and a 2 p.m. matinee.
For tickets, priced £14, £10 for concessions and matinee and £40 for a family, call the Steeple Box Office on (01324) 506850 or visit www.ticketsource.co.uk/event/80006.
