Classic Music Live! Falkirk continued its programme with a lunchtime concert given by The Salon Trio in the Faw Kirk.
The trio specialises in “Palm Court” music from an age of elegance where small ensembles played in hotel atriums and tea rooms. The repertoire consisted of light classics, often arrangements of popular melodies, operetta tunes and dances such as the waltz.
The trio presented a typical programme consisting of some familiar favourites. Brahms’ Hungarian Dance, Dvorak’s Humoresque, Mendelssohn’s Wings of Song and Roses of Picardy by Haydn Wood were among the most instantly recognisable pieces they played.
They also played their own arrangement of Sullivan’s Iolan the Overture and finished with a selection of Strauss’ waltzes.
The trio played with all the poise and charm that this music requires and created a friendly atmosphere by introducing the individual pieces. The audience clearly enjoyed the concert and were singing the tunes as they left.
Nostalgia is still alive!
The next concert is an evening concert in Falkirk Town Hall Friday, October 17 at 7.30 pm. This concert will be given by the Ismsiz Piano Trio playing music by Beethoven and Dvorak.
