Keep it in the Addams family

High school pupils have been acting creepy, kooky, mysterious, spooky and just a wee bit ooky as they rehearse their new musical.

The Addams Family might not seem like the usual choice for a secondary school production, but Grangemouth High School’s success with Little Shop of Horrors last year opened the door for Gomez, Morticia and their crazy clan.

Drama teacher and director Mhairi Brown said: “I’m so proud of the pupils in this show. They have worked really hard in rehearsals and are making my job very easy on this one.

“We were looking for a show to do and couldn’t get the rights for a few of them. Then I saw a group perform The Addams Family in Dunblane and just fell about laughing it was so good.

“We’ve edited out some of the content and are doing the school-friendly version.”

The plot sees a later version of the Addams family we all know and love, with Wednesday all grown up and ready to marry the love of her life. The one problem she has is introducing his straight-laced family to her, well, slightly less straight-laced family.

The Addams Family was created by American cartoonist Charles Addams in 1938 and includes such memorably gruesome characters as Lurch, Thing and the light bulb sooking Uncle Fester. The family has featured on television, film and stage.

Performances run at Grangemouth High School from Tuesday, June 7, to Friday, June 10, at 7pm each night and tickets are available from the school office.
