Striker turned defender Russell McLean is another of the elite performers at Graeme High school’s SFA performance programme.

Despite being just 15-years-old, he is already on the periphery of Paul Hartley’s first team squad at Recreation Park after the Alloa boss switched the striker to a more defensive role. It paid dividends as soon after, McLean, from Stenhousemuir was picked for the first team’s pre-season matches at Cove and Peterhead.

McLean is the grandson of Peter Hunter, East Stirlingshire SFA’s first grade one referee, and played for Stenhousemuir and Gairdoch youth teams before forging a place at Alloa’s Academy side.
