Triple success for local racing driver Chris

Local racing driver Christopher Burgoyne is celebrating after claiming a hat-trick of championship wins over the past few months.

The 32-year old from Airth, who competes in Brisca F2, first won the National Championship followed by the British and eventually European championship.

Chris, who has been racing since the age of ten has said that the three wins are amongst the biggest achievements of his career.

He said: “This past Summer has probably been the best of my racing career.

The first test for Chris came in the form of the National Championship held at Buxton in May.

“The car seemed okay going into this race and once the green flag dropped it was clear it was going to be a much more timid encounter than other races I’ve been in.

“Once I got to the front it was just a case of going steady and in the end I won by about a quarter of a lap.”

Next up for the now national champ was the British Championships which were held in Northern Ireland.

“Winning the National championships gave me good momentum going into this one as the two races were just seven days apart.

“In the British Championships each driver must compete in three out of five qualifiers and their times are the accumulated to see where they will start on the grid.

“I started in second and again managed to get out in front and it was another case of going steady and keeping a hold of that lead to get the win.”

With two out of three trophies now secured Chris moved onto the European Championships which were held in Northampton earlier this month.

“I came close to winning this race in 2009 when I finished second so to win it this year was extra special.

“In this one you have to draw your grid position out of a hat, I was always terrible at this so let my youngest, Chris Jnr, draw my number and he pulled out number three.

“I knew from that spot that, with my ability, If I could get into first place I could go on and win and that’s exactly what happened.”

After winning the race Chris was full of praise for his team, sponsors and family.
