There was no squad rotation back in the day...

The Benchman weighs up the difference between a weakened team and a rotating squad.

ALEX BLACKWOOD: Good to hear that Alex Blackwood had been recognised at the gala awards for his loyal service to the club over the years. He deserves it for his perseverance and professionalism during the most difficult of times, and he was always a highly respected figure with Scottish League and SFA officials.

PIPER MAYHEM: There was a unique happening at the Ayr game. The Main Stand are reported to have joined in the singing. This was in stark contrast to the rustle of sweetie papers, the moans and groans whenever a pass goes astray and the occasional snoring and sneezing. The club should seriously consider hiring the piper to enliven proceedings. Let’s hope the excitement wasn’t too much for those in the morgue-like stand and that they were able to recover after a lie down in a darkroom.

I PLAYED WITH HIM: Imagine my amazement when I met an old man in East Kilbride who had been the goalie when Jimmy Delaney played for Derry City. He recalled the 1954 Cup final win which gave Jimmy cup winners medals in Scotland, England and Ireland. Incredible.

LAST WEEK: Reds at Livi were for Stewart Murdoch and Kallum Higginbotham. The former Bairn was Dr. Ian Rae, a research chemist and Ian played for Falkirk, Bristol City and Stenhousemuir.

PFA TEAM OF THE YEAR: Well done to the four Bairns who were voted into the team of the year for their league. It is always great to be recognised by your colleagues and opponents, and it might be interesting to see what Scotland could do if the PFA picked the team. I still cringe when I look at some of the players who won caps under Bertie Vogts.

THE CLOSE SEASON: Sunday July 1 - The final of Euro 2012. Monday, July 9 - Formartine play Falkirk in first of the pre-season matches. Now- how can we fill that yawning void between the two matches?

TEASER: Can you name the Falkirk players who have played for Scotland B teams?

THIS WEEK’S MYSTERY PIC: Name the venue, the teams and the players on either side of the ball-winner.

GOOD LUCK: Wherever they end up, all the very best to the players leaving the club at the end of their contracts. Thanks for some brilliant memories lads.
