John Coughlin comes straight back off a two week holiday this weekend and right into East Stirlingshire’s first public friendly of the pre-season.
Shire travel to take on former Scottish Junior Cup holders Tayport on Saturday. The game has a 2 p.m. kick-off.
It will be Shire fans’ first opportunity to see Coughlin’s work in progress and the side will feature a number of trialists aiming to win a contract in the run-up to the big kick-off when the team travels to Dumbarton in the first round of the Ramsdens Cup on Sunday, July 24.
Assistant coach Matt Kerr has been presiding over training in Coughlin’s absence and insists things are progressing well.
“We have a good squad and there is a great spirit about them,” said Kerr. “They have done everything that has been asked of them and we are looking forward to getting into some action.”
Coughlin now has ten signed players and will hope to tie up a few more on his return from his two week break. He is banking on being able to pick up a few players who had been hoping to sort out deals before now but who may be running out of options.
Shire will also face junior opposition on Tuesday night. They will travel to Newtongrange Star for their final friendly game before the season starts for real.
