Falkirk to start rugby season at home to Glasgow Accies while Grangemouth Stags kick off against Hillfoots

Scottish Rugby have this week announced the fixtures for clubs across the country for the 2020/21 season.

Covid-19 has forced a shake up of the league structure but, subject to final approval from the Scottish Government, the new season is set to begin on October 31.

Falkirk RFC have been placed in ‘Tennent’s Light National Competition 2’ where 24 teams will be divided into two conferences and within each conference will be divided into two pools.

Teams will play each other within the same pool twice on a home and away basis during Stage 1 of the competition and play teams from the opposing pool in the same conference on a home or away basis during Stage 2.

The winners of each pool in Stage 1 will progress to the play-offs along with the winners and runners up of each conference following Stage 2.

Falkirk 1st XV have been placed in the ‘Blue Conference – Purple’ alongside Dumfries Saints, GHK, Hamilton, Newton Stewart and Glasgow Academicals who they kick off their season against at home on October 31.

Grangemouth Stags have been placed in ‘Tennent’s Light Caledonia Midlands Competition 1’ where 14 teams will play in a two-stage competition.

In Stage 1 five of the 14 teams play each other home and away while the other nine teams play each other home or away.

Then, in Stage 2, the 14 teams are to be divided into two conferences where Stage 1 winners will be seeded into separate conferences, teams in each conference will play each other home or away.

The winners and runners up of each conference will progress to the play-offs.

Stags 1st XV are part of the five team group in Stage 1 alongside Blairgowrie, Glenrothes, Dunfermline and Hillfoots who they face in their first match at home on November 7.

There is also the possibility of a local derby being thrown up in Stage 2 of the competition with Falkirk 2nd XV also competing in ‘Tennent’s Light Caledonia Midlands Competition 1’.

Stags 2nd XV will play in ‘Tennent’s Light Caledonia Midlands Competition 2’.
