The rugby club were pretty much assured promotion after last week’s win over Aberdeenshire, but it was rubber-stamped on the soaking south of Glasgow on Saturday.

The Sunnysiders charged to a 43-29 win over Cartha Queen’s park, the onloy other side who could pip them to second place in National League Two.

That would have required a substantial victory for the Glasgow side over Falkirk and two further wins to overturn a three-figure points difference in Niall Lear’s side’s favour.

But that was all academic when the visitors took the points and promotion at Dumbreck.

The step up means returns to the Sunnysiders’ old stomping grounds of GHA, Aberdeen Grammar, Marr and Howe of Fife.

Elsewhere Grangemouth Stags 2XV hosted a local derby with Falkirk at Glensburgh. The visitors ran out 15-5 winners in a close-fought derby match.
