Double win for Kelpies at Montrose round-robin

Last weekend saw Kelpies U15/16 rugby team compete in their first ever Caledonia Cup games.

The boys travelled to Montrose to play in the first of two round-robin events, against hosts Montrose and Glenrothes/Carnoustie.

First up were the home side, Montrose and Kelpies started strong scoring three unanswered tries to lead 15-0.

Just when it looked to be a whitewash, Kelpies relaxed a bit too much and allowed Montrose to score two tries of their own, reducing Kelpies to a 15-10 lead at half time.

The second half was a much more even contest with both teams managing to score two tries.

Kelpies kicked the only successful conversion resulting in a final score of 27-20 to the visitors.

Next up were Glenrothes/Carnoustie and again Kelpies started strong but, unlike their first game, were impenetrable in defence and recorded a decisive 48-0 victory.

Kelpie’s top try scorer of the day was Ruari Fraser while Reagan Brown also scored two tries on his debut for the team.

This week sees the Kelpies U13/14 play a Caledonia festival at Falkirk Rugby Club.

The U15/16 are in cup action at Glenrothes while the U18 side are away to Musselburgh.
