Stenhousemuir Cricket Club boosted by £10,000 grant

Stenhousemuir Cricket Club have received a £10000 small business grant from the Scottish Government via Falkirk Council.

After investigating what grants would be available to them, club secretary Steven McLaren applied for the grant.

The club were initially declined due to receiving sports relief instead of small business relief.

Mr. McLaren then wrote to local MSP Michael Matheson and received assistance from his office manager Andrew MacLachlan who had heard about this anomaly previously from some bowling clubs.

Andrew wrote to the Scottish Government and communicated with Falkirk Council and we the club then received the welcome news via email of the award.

“It has completely taken the pressure off the club,” explained Mr. McLaren.

“Over the next few months, with the possibility of there being no cricket and the bar perhaps not opening.

“We know for a fact now the cricket club will be around for next season no problem.

“I’ve informed our members that everything is going to be okay.

“Other clubs really should be going to the Falkirk Council website, under the business section, and look at what is available for them to make sure nobody misses out.”
