Sneddon wins Scottish Championship at Lochgelly

Bo’ness stock car driver Harvey Sneddon claimed the biggest win of his burgeoning career last weekend by triumphing at the Scottish junior championship at Lochgelly Racetrack.

The 15-year old battled through a torrential downpour at the Fife track to take the title from defending champion Koddi Wright.

Going into the third and final heat, Sneddon started in the front row of the grid alongside Lennon Grant, with John Bremner and Jensen Bell in row two and Wright in row three alongside Jas Walle.

As the green flag dropped, it was Sneddon who got away first, with a coming together behind him which saw Bell head onto the infield before recovering and getting back onto the track a few places down.

As the laps went on, Sneddon held a solid inside line, with Walle trying to make a move on the outside line.

The two cars battled for the lead side by side for the last five laps, with Bremner and Jensen Bell side by side as well as they all hustled for the lead of the race.

A photo finish looked a possibility, with absolutely nothing between the lead pair.

However, on the last lap, Walle lost a bit of ground, giving Sneddon the momentum and space to take the flag.

“It’s definitely the biggest win I’ve had since I started racing two years ago,” said Harvey.

"It was a really close race. I was on the inside lane where there were a lot of puddles, which was slowing me down, but I knew going into the last corner that I needed a bit of an edge, so I just had to go for it, even though I couldn't see halfway up the straight.

"It all went so quick. It was a massive adrenalin rush.

"Once I got out of the car, I saw Jas, who congratulated me, then my family came over to celebrate.

“I had lost my voice as I was just trying to take in what I’d achieved.”

There won’t be any time for Harvey to rest on his success, though, as he heads back to Lochgelly Racetrack this weekend for an open Scottish meeting.

"The way I see it now, I've only won one race and want to be consistent all season.

"I’ll definitely be hoping the weather improves, though.”
