Directed by Glasgow’s Antony Scott and with an all Scottish cast the movie is described by its director as “the first feature film with 20 genres of fiction, the first of its kind with a protagonist who jumps (FLUX) between the fiction worlds.”

Lapsley began with a cameo role in the movie but after impressing the director, who he had first met in 2015, he began filming more and more scenes leading up to him becoming one of the leading men.

The Falkirk native spoke to the Herald about how excited he is for the eventual debut of the movie and about how his background in martial arts led to him becoming a fight coordinator and an actor.

“I started in 1995 as an extra, I had a good agent who got me a lot of work.

“I stopped acting and concentrated on my martial arts and I was competing at a really high level.

“In 2011 I got back into acting, I got asked to act and put a couple of fight scenes together for a feature film based on a graphic novel. I missed out on the part but those scenes were seen by people in the industry and led to a lot of other roles.

“My name for fight scenes is starting to take off, I’ve had a lot of people complementing them” and I’ve also had the opportunity to work with the best stunt people in the UK.

Although the film does not yet have a release date, due to the impact of the ongoing Covid-19 crisis, it has been completed and is ready to premiere and Lapsley says he is very excited to finally see the finished product.

“It’s just so exciting and I’m really looking forward to it.

“Obviously the release has been pushed back due to lockdown, but the trailer is out now and once people can go back to cinemas we will know a release date.

“I’m very, very excited for it, it’s something new for Scotland and there is a lot of unknown talent in there who have been great to work with.

“Originally I had a cameo role in a small fight scene and then I worked my way up after getting to know the director who was quite impressed with me.

“He had me back to do a massive fight season in a casino, I’m really looking forward to seeing it, and from there my part became bigger and bigger.

“He told me on one of the locations I had worked my way up to one of the leading actors of the film and I’m in the opening credits.

“It’s an all Scottish cast, the acting skill and talent from the cast and crew are amazing and they were a great bunch to work with. It was all filmed in Scotland, a lot of it in Glasgow and throughout Scotland.

“To be part of the project has been amazing, I’ve seen snippets of the film so far and it’s looking good.”

Director Antony Scott spoke about his relationship with Lapsley and how the film has taken off from humble beginnings.

He said: “I first met Paul back in 2015, he was cast in a small role as an Air Marshal in FLUX.

“Back then, FLUX was originally a short film for my BA Hons year at University of West of Scotland. I got great feedback but little did I know, I was yet to discover the potential of the project.

“In 2016, Paul became a key player in helping me build FLUX into a feature film.

“Paul was always keen to show his martial arts skills on screen and I was more than happy to watch him work.

“I wanted to see what range he had as an actor and fight choreography, I knew, he had more layers where he could play different characters and FLUX was the perfectly opportunity to do this.

“He was cast as an additional four characters, each in their own unique worlds of fiction.

“Every film requires talent and dedicated individuals to bring it to life, Paul is one the good ones, he worked in main roles and I look forward to working with him again.”
