Falkirk RFC chairman Bill Faulds has paid tribute to the clubs sponsors for their "outstanding support" over the past two to three years.

Like all sports clubs across the country the Sunnyside outfit are taking a financial hit during the UK wide lockdown due to the Covid-19 crisis.

However, hard work from the committee and strong support from local business has helped the club in to a strong financial position over the past few years which will ensure their security through these uncertain times.

Speaking to The Herald, Mr Faulds said: "We've kind of revolutionised what we've done over the past two years in terms of sponsorship.

"A number of local businesses have been very supportive to us and we try to make sure and show our appreciation of that.

"The last home game of the season is usually sponsor day where we get them all along for a meal and a few drinks.

"Whether or not they can support us again this year is irrelevant because the support they've given over the past two years has been outstanding and financially the club is in a decent place.

"We want to get them along as soon as possible to say thanks for their support so far."

Like most clubs, Falkirk would expect to be making income from match days and without those their will be a hole in the clubs finances for next season.

"We're missing out on three home games so that's a couple of grand lost," said Mr Faulds.

"The beer festival is due to take place in late August and that seems ambitious so that could be a big miss.

"There are expenses we don't have to worry about as well though, we had probably four away games which could have easily been a grand or a grand and a half on coach fees.

"Overall, we're probably looking at a eight to ten grand hit so that's a hole next year.

"When we took over there was a five figure debt and now we're five figure positive in the bank and if we the committee have to work harder we will."

For the players, they are being given training regime to work on by the club during lockdown as the club has to prepare for a September restart to the season until they are told otherwise.

"It's unclear when the season would restart, it's normally September but we might not play rugby the rest of the year.

"We've got a S&C coach who is giving the players weekly programmes.

"Usually you want to start training 12 weeks before the start of the season but right now we just have to wait and see."
