Maddiston to the four in Jump2It final victory

Maddiston Primary School won the Falkirk Jump2it Basketball Championships for the 4th year in a row '“ an incredible achievement given the now huge amount of schools in Falkirk schools playing competitive basketball.

This was the 5th year the Jump2it program has been run in Falkirk and with St.Margarets taking year one, Maddiston have gone on and dominated the event ever since!

The Scottish Sports Futures program financed by the Governments Cashback in the Communities and supported by the Glasgow Rocks pro basketball team sees schools visited by the Rocks and then basketball sessions delivered by Sony Centre Fury Basketball coaches and players.

This year a record 24 schools were in the competition with Maddiston, Antonine, Bothkennar and the Grange Primary schools reaching the Final Four at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow after a local competition at Grangemouth SC.

The program also has input from Falkirk Community Trust Active Schools co-ordinators and the semi-finals saw Maddiston defeat Antonine and Bothkennar defeat Grange.

The final, which was played during the half-time slot of the pro British Basketball League match between the Rocks and Bristol Flyers was a tense affair with Maddiston eventually taking the title over Bothkennar.

All four finals teams were presented with awards by the Rocks players which included Fury’s own Jonny Bunyan who hit 17 personal in the 87-58 Rocks win over the Flyers.

Over 500 players in Falkirk took part in the event and the skills shown on the day by the Final 4 teams, once again prompted comments from the 2000 Rocks fans that the standard of play was among the best in the country at primary school age group.
