Jade Nimmo was still smiling, even though she finished 14th in the women’s long jump heats yesterday and won’t compete in tonight’s final.
The Scottish record holder from Hallglen was six centimetres off qualifying, but still couldn’t wipe the grin from her face when she caught up with The Falkirk Herald after yesterday’s leaps.
She went 6.12m, 6.20m and 6.23m to reach her season’s best and said: “That’s the best comp I’ve been to and probably one of the first my family have seen me in – there were about 15 of them with T-shirts banners, face-paints - it was great. My aunt is 60 on Sunday and she was in there too.”
She added: “Hampden had a similar feel to the British Championships - but just noisier. I’ve never had a warm-up clap before. I had to take five minutes to take it in.
“It was a season’s best for me and I was aiming for the final. Making the team and feeling I’ve jumped well has left me quite happy. I can’t stop smiling!”
Nimmo will be back at Hampden to cheer on her friend Eilidh Childs tonight. (Thursday)
