Following an initial lifting of restrictions in May, members were welcomed back to the course for the first time in two months and since then tee times have been fully booked.

Now, with the hope that First Minister Nicola Sturgeon will further ease restrictions today (Thursday, June 18), the club are hoping to see the return of competitions.

Speaking to the Herald, Falkirk Golf Club secretary Peter Bryans said: “Since reopening tee times have been fully booked from seven in the morning till eight at night.

“Initially only members were allowed but we have now added that members may bring a guest to play with after one o’clock.

“Our members have been really good over the past two months and most have paid their fees on time so we wanted to give as much back to them as we could considering the time they have lost.

“At the moment members are only allowed out in pairs which would make tournament play very difficult.

“We’re hoping that the FM announces further easing of restrictions which would allow people out in three or even fourballs.

“Once we can get threeballs out we are pretty much ready to start competitions and the hope is we can do that as of Saturday, June 27.”

As well as existing members, the club also saw a spike in new members over the past month.

“We’ve seen a really good increase in members over the last month, we’ve taken in 46 new members since the beginning of May.

“It helps us to balance the books a wee bit as well, because the club is open to non members we do a lot of lunches and functions.

“Our turnover from the bar can be in the region of £200,000 a year from food and drink and that’s a big loss.”
