Gaffer Jimmy Lindsay happy with Rabs’ winning start

ROB Roy have registered a maiden pre-season win - in the first of SEVEN friendlies organised by manager Jimmy Lindsay.

Rabs travelled to Castle Douglas on Saturday to take on Threave Rovers and won the game 2-1.

Lindsay was happy with the result but insisted his side could have won by a landslide.

He told the Herald: “We had lots of chances and should have scored six or seven goals but it’s good to get the misses out of the way before the competitive season starts.

“We’ve got three new paid signings and four new amateurs in the team and they’re starting to gel together well.

“There were a few players who couldn’t make it because of their holidays so we’ll be playing pretty much a completely different team this week so everybody gets a run out.”

The next two weeks will see six bounce games in quick succession - including five in just seven days - starting with a home tie this evening (Wednesday) against Bellshill Athletic.

Rabs will then travel to Aberdeen for two games against Banks of Dee on Friday at 7.30pm and Stonehaven on Saturday at 2pm.

The players will hardly have time to draw breath on their return before another two away friendlies against Airdrie United on Monday at 8pm and Camelon Juniors at 7.15pm on Tuesday.

The busy schedule is a tactic Lindsay is employing to ensure his players are completely match-fit for the start of the season - which kicks-off with a sectional cup tie against Cumbernauld United on Monday, August 6.
