The former Falkirk High pupil and Falkirk Fury player is now with the Glasgow Rocks and enjoying an excellent term in the British basketball league and attracted the international call-up.

Fraser also starred for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in 2018 and will be hoping to make the cut when the final squad is selected from the 24 named by Marc Steutel, down to 12.

The former under-20 coach has been drafted in with regular benchman Nate Reinking unavailable for the trip to the Balkans and then home match with Germany in Newcastle.

Sony Centre Falkirk Fury head coach John Bunyan, who follows Fraser’s progress closely since he left the club, told The Falkirk Herald: “ It is great to see Ali Fraser, one of our former players, recognised again as a Great Britain level player.

“Ali has been almost unstoppable for his current club, the Glasgow Rocks and has put on consistent high level performances in the BBL throughout the season.

“This is especially big for Ali who when last in GB co tension had to drop out through injury.

“This series of games are key for GB Men to qualify for the Olympic and while Ali is in the initial 24 player squad - all at Fury wish him well as he looks for a final 12 spot.”

GB are the lowest ranked in their group with Montenegro, Germany and France

Also in the squad is Fraser’s Rocks’ team-mate Gareth Murray and Ovie Soko, now known for his stint in ITV2’s Love Island programme last year.
