Young Once support Gordy

Falkirk fans of 'a certain age' will remember the Road Runners, The Young Ones and The Sundowners. Some might even remember the young Road Runners playing in the old Brockville enclosure prior to a league game against Third Lanark. Years later, some key members of these 60s pop groups are still playing and their fund-raising efforts for charity have been phenomenal. They reformed back in 2009, changed their name to Young Once, and since then their annual Dobbie Hall gig has been sold out, with amazing amounts raised for Strathcarron and Leukemia Research.

When the plight of Falkirk FC stalwart Gordon McFarlane was made known, the group quickly agreed to stage a summer event at the Dobbie Hall and all proceeds will be going to the Bring Gordy Home fund.

The group is made up of Peter Duncan, Paul Serafini, Sandy Drysdale and Brian Watters and all were members of local bands back in the 1960s. Their repertoire is extensive and covers many of the songs from the 60s and 70s which will ensure a night to remember. Gordon McFarlane was keen on his music and as well as being Doc Dickens, a well-known local DJ, he also ran his own record shop -Gordon’s Record Shop in Denny. Peter gave Gordon a list of the 125 songs they feature at their gigs, and Colin McFarlane has helped his Dad select his favourites.

The Dance for Gordy is being staged at the Dobbie Hall in Larbert on Saturday, July 23 starting at 7.45 p.m. and details of ticket sales will be published in The Herald next week. Priced £15 each they will be great value. Doors will be open from 7pm. It is hoped to have a few well-known Falkirk faces at the gig, and a few Falkirk Football songs as well.
The event is sure to sell out very quickly, so get yours as soon as they are released.
