Wright under no illusions of scale of task

The club’s longest-serving player scored a vital goal in the first match at Meadowbank Stadium to ensure Saturday’s game at Ochilview starts all square.

But, with Shire aware that defeat against the Lowland League champions would mean dropping out of Scottish football’s elite for the first time since 1955, he understands just how high the stakes are.

“It’s a massive game for the club,” he said. “It does mean an awful lot and people at the club make us aware of the history of the club. I think I’m the longest-serving player here so I have been educated on it too.

“We understand what it means for people and how important the club is to people’s lives and for the town.”

Wright’s contribution in the first leg in Edinburgh suggested he understood the enormity of the event.

“It was probably the most important game I have played in,” said Wright, “The closer it was coming

towards us the more we were aware of it.

“The boys knew how vastly important it was and now the first game is out of the way we really know how big it is.”
