Women's football round-up: Stenhousemuir stun ICT as Falkirk get revenge

Revenge was on the cards last Sunday as Falkirk chalked up a 9-0 home win over Westdyke in the Barclays Scottish Women’s Championship.

Craig Tully’s team, who now sit second in the table having collected ten points from their opening five fixtures, dominated proceedings with goals from Mhairi Smith, Shannon Todd (2), Olivia Murphy, Ellie Roberts (2), Iona Bridges, Ella Stewart and 15-year-old debutant Lucy McArthur sealing the three points.

The Bairns, who won promotion last term – having previously missed out on promotion two years ago from League One on the final after losing to the Aberdeen side – have enjoyed an unbeaten start to life in the third tier.

Elsewhere, Stenhousemuir provided the shock result of the weekend, beating previously undefeated Inverness Caley Thistle 2-0 away from home.

Jack Cameron’s side surged to their third win of the season thanks to goals from skipper Jude Connolly and Praise Adebo.

The Warriors now sit in fifth spot on nine points heading into their home match against Morton this Sunday. Falkirk host Forfar Farmington.

In the Barclays Scottish Women’s League One, Dunipace suffered a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Airdrie at Westfield.

Next up for Gillian Lynn’s team, who sit seventh on six points from their five outings so far since winning promotion from the regional SWFL league system, is a short trip to an Armadale side who racked up a 12-0 win last time out against Dundee West. That also takes place on Sunday.
