“HOUSTON MUST GO!”

An irate Bairns supporter leapt to his feet as Lee Miller was substituted in the 50th minute. He was waving his arms about and demanding that another player be withdrawn instead. His anger knew no bounds and he shouted towards the Directors’ box that the Falkirk manager should be sacked. A few moments later, with Rangers still two up, he had seen enough and left his seat heading for home to smash crockery, kick the cat and burn his season ticket. Imagine his surprise on arriving home and hearing the outcome of the manager’s ineptitude, his lack of tactical awareness and his complete and utter failure to motivate and inspire his charges.

CLICHE CORNER

I don’t think I have ever seen a bigger contrast in two 45 minute periods of football. After the opening salvo, I thought we were heading for another of the traditional drubbings we seemed to suffer in the 60s. Honest as ever, Peter Houston thought we were lucky to get in at 2-0, when it could easily have been 5-0. Rangers were unplayable and looked streets ahead. The turning point was the introduction of Hippolyte, and those who had seen his earlier home appearance, must have thought it was a case of Finnegan 1 and 2.(ask your Dad younger readers.) Rangers were spooked and fell apart at the back. In the end, even deep into stoppage time, you sensed that Falkirk could do it.

DOUBLE OR QUITS

Make a note in your diaries- March 18th. 2016. Falkirk beat Rangers for the second time in a season. We have had limited success against the Ibrox side over the years, but this season was one to savour. Unlucky at Ibrox -twice- and two home wins. Enjoy it while it lasts.

ATTACK, ATTACK,
ATTACK

Rangers will win the league with points to spare, and will more than hold their own in the top division. Their resources are streets ahead of any other club in this division and they are still a “big club” in every sense. Their current squad is promising, but their defence is very vulnerable when teams go at them. Falkirk showed that with a vengeance. The Ibrox side are a long way short of the class of player they could attract in their hey-day when they steamrollered lesser teams- as we know only too well.

I SPY WITH MY LITTLE EYE

“You’re only here to see The Rangers, here to see The Rangers....” sang the assembled Rangers choirs pointing to the presence of Ronnie Deila and John Collins in the Main Stand. With amazing perspicacity, they were absolutely spot on. They WERE here to see the Rangers.

ANSWERS

Tam McManus was signed from Dundee and the mystery player was Roger Byrne who was tragically killed in the Munich Air Disaster.
