"We're a young side and we'll learn from this," says Camelon gaffer Herd

Camelon Juniors manager Gordon Herd says their players will learn from Monday night’s 2-1 Scottish Cup First Round defeat to Brora Rangers after a dominant first half display that they sadly let slip.

The Mariners took a 1-0 lead in to the break after David Morrison netted on 20 minutes and it was fully deserved with the visitors not in the game at all until the stroke of 45 minutes when Scott Law produced a brilliant save to deny them.

However, the game turned on it’s head and it was Brora who dominated the game as they wen't on to win 2-1 and Camelon finished with nine men.

Speaking after the match, Herd said: “The first half hour we were excellent and our only complaint was we should have had more than one goal and that’s what came back to bite us.

"Fair play to Brora, they changed their shape in the second half and were a bit sharper than us.

"They are a really good side, they're the Highland League champions, but it’s frustrating as they did a bit of a job on us in the second half.

"If it goes 2-0 it’s a hard way back for Brora but they get the equaliser, get their tails up and punish us.

"They took the battering we gave them in the first half and responded, it’s a lesson for our boys.

"It’s only their second time in the competition, they’re a young squad and they’ll come back from this.”

While the second sending off was clear cut, Camelon had complaints about the first which came shortly after Brora had made it 1-1 as Greg MacPherson was judged to bring down the Brora attacker when he was the last man.

"I wasn’t sure he was the last man,” said Herd.

"The ball goes through to the keepers arms and our centre half is covering.

"It's just one of these things that could have went either way and we can’t have any complaints.

"The sending off wasn't what killed us, it was not being better on the ball in the second half.”
