Ure still looking for more ruthlessness from Shire after perfect start

East Stirlingshire manager Derek Ure says he is still looking for his player to be more ruthless despite starting the Lowland League season with three wins from three and not conceding a single goal.

The Shire boss says in terms of results it was a pleasing start but that he feels his players still have more to offer performance wise.

He said: “Obviously If someone had offered us that before the start of the season we'd have taken it.

"However, there's clearly some room for improvement in regards to performance levels, we've not hit the levels we know we can but the pleasing aspect of that is we know we can do better but have still managed to win three on the bounce.

"It's pleasing that we're not conceding but we can't get complacent and we need to ensure we work hard to make sure it stays like that.

"If we get complacent that's when we will start making mistakes and we can't afford that."

After wins over CS Strollers and Edinburgh University Shire's third win came last Saturday when they won 4-0 away to Dalbeattie Star with Gregg Wylde netting a double and Reis Peggie and Ronan Kearney netting one each.

"I think we deserved the victory but we can play far better than we did on Saturday,” said Ure.

"We were a bit sloppy in possession but we've kept the clean sheet and got four goals as well.

"What we're asking is for the players to be a bit more ruthless when we're on top because when we got that second Dalbeattie's heads went down.

"You want to capitalise on opposition mistakes to make your life easier and stop giving teams something to hang on to.

"Last year we were conceding a lot when we were in commanding positions, we were on top and not being ruthless.

Shire now have some time off before their next fixture at home to East Kilbride next Wednesday, October 31.

"Every game in our league will have its own difficulties and we know East Kilbride will prove to be another stern test.

"They will have aspirations to be at the top end of the table, same as us, and quite rightly so with the players they have.

"We feel though if we go out and apply ourselves correctly we can cause them problems.

"They've brought in a lot of experience but we'll have ideas on how to get at them and play to our strengths."
