Stenhousemuir stay ahead of schedule in points chase

Having identified 10 points per quarter as the aim at the start of the season, Warriors boss Brown Ferguson saw his side beat Airdrie on Saturday to reach their goal for the end of the third quarter with four games to spare.

Stenny now sit on 32 points, just one off the play-off places, after twice coming from behind to snatch a 3-2 victory with a last-minute winner.

And Ferguson was delighted with both the win and the manner in which is was achieved.

he said: “It was a very good three points for us and while it was nice to get the win we can also take a lot of confidence from the manner in which we got it.

“Other than the first 15 minutes the performance was excellent, but it’s not a one-off to come back the way they did.

“They players have won a number of games and picked up a number of points from positions which might have been thought of as impossible and they deserve great credit for that.

“It puts us ahead of schedule for our target of 10 points per quarter which we set at the start of the season. That would give us a tally of 40 points and if we get to that we can look at other things.

“We’re now sitting on 32 points with a couple of games coming up against teams round about is in the league so the opportunity is there to put ourselves in a really strong position for the final quarter of the season.”

Saturday’s opponents Albion Rovers are one place in front of Stenhousemuir, ahead only on goal difference, and have won both previous meetings between the sides this season, 2-0 at Cliftonhill and 1-0 at Ochilview.

Ferguson said: “In the first game against them this season they dominated the match and deserved to win, but in the second game I felt the result was against the run of play and that we didn’t get the breaks our performance deserved.

“They don’t give much away, they are very strong defensively as a unit, but if we play as we can we can go and cause them problems.”

Stenny will be without Alan Cook who is suspended for one game.
