Stenhousemuir need to stop conceding soft goals says Irons

Stenhousemuir manager Davie Irons says he was thrilled with the character his players showed to come back from 2-0 down and earn a point at home to Stranraer.

However, the Warriors gaffer also admitted he was disappointed they were 2-0 down in the first place as soft goals again cost them the potential for more.

Adam Cummins put the Blues 1-0 up and a Ruari Paton penalty gave them a two goal advantage which they took in to half time.

On the hour mark Botti Biabi pulled Stenny back in to the game as he made it 2-1 but just a minute later they lost Callum Tapping to a red card.

Despite having to play the final 30 minutes with ten men they were able to rescue a point with Cammy Graham netting the equaliser on 88 minutes.

Speaking to The Falkirk Herald, Irons said: "It was disappointing the way we conceded the two goals, they were poor on our part.

"We probably started the game well too but it's becoming a worry that we keep conceding cheap goals but our response in the second half was excellent.

"We lost Callum Tapping and had half an hour with ten men so massive credit to the boys for getting a point out of a game that I thought at one stage was beyond us.

"We knew it would be a tough game but we contributed to a lot of our own problems with the way we defended at times.

"We need to get that sorted out and I'm sure we will."

Next up for the Warriors is a tricky away trip to Elgin City who were on the end of a surprise 3-1 defeat to Albion Rovers last Saturday.

"I don't think many people expected that result,” said Irons.

"I'm not concerned about who we're playing at any stage of the season but it will be a tough game and they are a decent side."

It wall also be the first time Stenny will play in front of a crowd this season as a limited number of City supporters will be allowed in to Borough Briggs for the match.

"It's brilliant for Elgin that they can have supporters in.

"It's good to see a bit of light at the end of the tunnel and hopefully a lot more clubs will be able to follow suit.

"It will be a pleasant experience having fans watching again, I hope they give us a lot of stick because that means we will be doing well."
