Stenhousemuir had any lingering festive cheer wiped out as they slumped to a 5-1 Boxing Day defeat at the hands of Stranraer.
The win enabled Stranraer to move off the bottom of the League One table with a display at Ochilview that completely belied their league status.
The visitors had passed up numerous excellent chances and when the clock struck 13 it proved unlucky for the Stair Park outfit.
Completely against the run of play Mark Gilhaney sent in a corner from the right and when the visiting defence failed to clear, Ross Meechan forced the ball over the line.
The Blues continued to have the upper hand, however, and the scoreline took on a more realistic look when they rattled in three goals in as many minutes to seemingly put the game to rest.
Right on the half hour mark Craig Malcolm fired in the first from 16 yards, Jamie Longworth added a second tapping into the empty net after Sam McCloskey’s drive was tipped miraculously on to the bar by Matty Gould and McCloskey underlined a fine debut by slotting in the third.
Malcolm notched his second in the 51st minute before completing his hat-trick from the spot eight minutes from time after Jon Robertson downed Andy Stirling in the box.
