Work to install Ochilview Park’s new synthetic pitch is progressing ahead of
schedule with Scott Booth hopeful his players can test it out within weeks.

The Stenhousemuir boss is looking forward to putting his squad through their paces on the state-of-the-art surface as they step up their pre-season preparations.

The Warriors players met up for their first session of the new season on Tuesday night and will begin serious fitness work tonight (Thursday).

Until the new pitch is ready the squad will train at the University of Stirling and at Little Kerse in Grangemouth.

“The boys are looking fit and are glad to be back,” said Booth.

“Tuesday was all about fitness testing, but now the hard work can begin. We have a number of trialists training with us at the moment, mostly under-20s, as the development side of the club is one we’re looking to strengthen.

“It will be good to get on the new pitch when it’s ready. It’s definitely going to be an improvement and will be one of the best surfaces of its kind in Scotland.

“What was great about the old pitch was the club could get so much use from it, but it’s fair to say that it was very well used and it was time for a replacement.

“The players will be looking forward to testing out the new pitch and I’m hopeful we’ll get on it by the second week in July.”
