Allan Moore, the former manager of Stirling Albion and Greenock Morton, took in Stenhousemuir’s 1-1 draw with Stranraer on Saturday.
It was enough to kick the rumour mill into gear, with Moore already mentioned as a front-runner for the job.
The Falkirk Herald understands he has applied for the role and is among the CVs discussed and assessed by the Ochilview board.
More than 30 applications have been received - including exotic nominations from Malaysia and Spain – to replace Martyn Corrigan who was sacked after defeat to Arbroath last month.
Caretakers David Rowson and Brown Ferguson will be in charge for Saturday’s Scottish Cup match at Albion Rovers and the board are believed to be in no hurry to make an appointment given the relative success of two draws in the duo’s two games in temporary charge.
Further boardroom discussions will take place before interviews are arranged within the next fortnight.
