Corrigan expects ‘Muir to work

Martyn Corrigan says he expects his players to be firing on all cylinders when Stenhousemuir kick-off their season proper at home to Arbroath on Saturday in the Ramsdens Cup.

The Warriors boss was unimpressed as his side crashed to a 4-1 friendly defeat to fourth tier club Stirling Albion last weekend, but told Heraldsport he would prefer ‘Muir to have an off-day in a friendly match rather than when competitive football resumes.

“I didn’t see the result coming,” he said. “We had been playing some good stuff in other pre-season games, some nice passing moves and keeping the ball well. But against Stirling, we were poor. We just didn’t work hard enough. That said, it’s better to get it out before the season starts.”

Arbroath are no strangers to Stenhousemuir, but Corrigan is focusing not on what the Angus team will offer, instead ensuring that his own team are ready to go.

Sean Higgins is expected to play, despite being taken off at half-time against Stirling. Sean Lynch is out for around two-three weeks with a hamstring injury. Bryan Hodge underwent a scan yesterday (Wednesday) after also hobbling off last Saturday’s friendly.
