Stenhousemuir’s vacant manager’s job won’t have the attractive prospect of a Scottish Cup quarter final for the new man.
The Warriors made a meek exit from the competition, losing 2-0 at Albion Rovers.
It didn’t start well for the Warriors as captain Ross McMillan headed a freak own goal past Chris Smith.
The Coatbridge club had already provided one of the biggest cup shocks of the season by knocking Motherwell out of the competition, and although it won’t rank as a particularly big shock, they dismissed higher league opposition again.
The caretaker management team of Brown Ferguson, David Rowson, Scot Buist and Robert Glen had an on-field presence with Rowson in the midfield but he couldn’t replicate the form of his former club Aberdeen in overturning an early deficit.
Instead it was the Rovers who went further ahead just after the hour mark, with the hero of the last round Gary Phillips on the scoresheet.
The Warriors threw on sub Errol Douglas and he had a late chance to reduce the deficit but failed to take it, leaving Stenhousemuir looking purely for a new manager and not a quarter-final opponent too.
