Stenhousemuir chairman’s diary: Committed to October SPFL league restart

At Stenhousemuir, we’re focused on getting football back to Ochilview. This week, we have intensified the work we’ve been undertaking to map out the protocols and procedures that we will adopt in order to ensure safety.

This involves serious planning as well as drafting written policies and procedures. As the Government advice changes, sometimes from one day to the next, we have to adapt our thinking and planning as required.

Whilst it remains likely that football will initially return behind closed doors, we hope that we will be able to welcome back supporters, albeit this may be in a limited capacity to begin with. Social distancing will continue to be an issue, as will hand sanitisation and hygiene. Managing all of this in the context of a football ground is underway.

I took part in an SPFL League meeting this week where we looked at when first team football might return. Stenhousemuir FC remains committed to October and we hope that there will be clear direction within the next few days.

We received a donation from the philanthropist James Anderson this week. This is not only an incredibly generous act, but this will help us get through the remainder of this crisis.

Mr Anderson’s money was given to recognise the contribution that football clubs have made to their communities over many years.

The very generous donation from James Anderson will ensure our survival and help the club continue to be a strong part of our community for years to come.
