Speaking at Tuesday’s briefing, she said: “Later today, the public health minister will support the resumption of competitive football in Scottish Leagues 1 and 2, the Scottish Women's League 1 and, for the purposes of playing Scottish Cup ties, certain Highland League teams and I hope this will be welcomed by football fans across the country."

It is still unclear when fixtures will resume but clubs will have to undertake Covid testing, something that League 1 and 2 clubs had already offered.

The Scottish cup will also return with Falkirk due to take on Arbroath and Stenhousemuir to face Peterhead.

Again, it is still unclear when these matches will be rescheduled for.

The Scottish FA yesterday released a statement saying they were “awaiting a final decision from ministers.”
