Shire release defensive stalwart Greene

Derek Ure may have said his Shire re-building plans are on hold with the coronavirus uncertainty over the game’s resumption, but there’s been quiet movements in and out of the Falkirk Stadium this month.

Shire fans have watched as several of the club’s players departed at the end of their contracts.

Most significant of these is the departure of Connor Greene, the former Falkirk defender who has been a mainstay and impressive performer for the club since joining in 2014.

Also following him out of the black and white hoops will be Peter ‘Peaso’ MacDonald, Robbie Taylor, Robert Griffiths, Blair Hastings and Steven Bain. Willie Dyer has moved to Drumchapel United in the new West of Scotland League.

Negotiations are still going on in the background but the Shire have tied down some key figures for next season.

Amongst them are Jordan Tapping and Nicky Low.

Former Aberdeen man Low hit 14 goals for the club last season while Tapping is in his second stint at the club and extended it into, what all football fans hope, will be a season 2020-21.

They are part of half a dozen signings made by Ure and assistant Andy Rodgers and both management figures will also be available as first-team players for next season – whenever that may be.

Former Alloa midfielder and Falkirk Academy graduate Reis Peggie has signed up too, as have Jamie Dishington, Martin Orr and Sean Brown.

Shire are fundraising through Donate A Ticket and the 1880 Black and White Survival Fund which stands at £2646.

The club raised more than Gala Fairydean Rovers in Donate a Ticket’s Scottish Cup.
