Shire boss Derek Ure was far from pleased with the midweek hammering in Alloa, branding it “unacceptable” and was delighted with the way his players responded against a difficult Uni side.

He said: “I think that if you reflect on the scoreline it wasn't acceptable, there's not getting away from that.

"In general terms though I felt we played okay, we were good with the ball but missed chances at vital times.

"BSC are a top team who will take some big scalps, they've got the quality go go and hurt teams but if you defend the way we defended you are going to get punished.

"If we'd been a bit more clinical and had taken our chances at vital points then the scoreline would have been completely different but overall it was an unacceptable day at the office.”

On Saturday they had the chance to put things right and did it in fine style as an Andy Rodgers double and a Nicky Low goal took them to a hard earned three points against a Stirling Uni side who had previously handed Bo’ness United their first defeat of the Lowland League season.

"On Saturday we were a wee bit patched up,” said Ure.

"Boys carrying wee niggles that should maybe be getting a rest but it's testament to them that they are plodding through it and giving everything they've got.

"Saturday was a big result and performance because Stirling Uni are a good team.

"They are a side who are good on the ball and in the first half I felt there wasn't too much in it but in the second half we showed our quality, defended well and it was a top response from the boys and we couldn't ask for much more.”

Now the Shire will look to build on that win with another tough ask as the welcome Caledonian Braves to The Falkirk Stadium on Friday night.

"Braves beat us nine months ago in our last game before lockdown.

"They have proven over the last few years they can go and beat anybody in this league. They have a top three of proven goalscorers at this level but I have belief that if we go out and apply ourselves we can get the three points."
