The 32-year-old was also named Bairns captain on Tuesday.

McCracken says the midfielder will act as the dressing room translator for the aims and ambitions of the managerial duo at Falkirk, and that includes promotion at the first attempt.

McCracken told The Falkirk Herald: “We’ve got aspirations for the club, and Gary’s got a two-year deal. We want to get back into the Championship and push on from there. There’s a lot going on that we want to achieve and it’ll take a wee while to do that. But it’s an exciting time.

“We’ve got him over the line and we’re working on a few others as well, we’ll work from there to add more quality to the squad as well.”

Miller was handed the captain’s armband once held by McCracken and he added: “Since we came in last November he has been a model pro - before that he hadn’t really featured under Ray McKinnon, but playing with Gary previously in my career I knew what type of player and person he was.

“Lee saw it too, in the way he handled himself around the changing room, and once he was in the team, the way he led boys by example and did his own job, he started to help other boys so it made sense to put him into the captain position.

“He understands what we want to achieve and what we want out of the team so that makes it easier for us and he can translate that in and round about the changing room, along with some of the others. That helps our process managing the dressing room.”
