Euan Murray headed in two Dom Thomas set pieces in quick succession in the second half to secure the win for the home side but it was far from a straightforward victory for the Pars who were often troubled by the movement and passing by the Barins attackers.

That play was pleasing for Miller who said it was something they had spent a lot of time working on a training.

He said: “Loads of positives, I said to the players we were probably the better side in the first half but never took our chances and that cost us.

"Obviously there was the penalty decision as well, which I haven’t seen back yet, but have been told it's a clear penalty and I thought it was a stonewaller.

"It’s one of those things, sometimes you get them and sometimes you don’t.

"Overall though I think we created enough chances and I was pleased with how we played, dominating large spells of the first half.

"You can see in our play that the players are taking in what we are trying to get across and putting it in to the game.

"We never quite dealt with set plays in the game today and the boys are disappointed with that, they are disappointed with the result, but it's our first competitive game and we need to shake it off and get on with it.”

The good interplay of the attacking players lead to a great chance for Falkirk in the first half when Aidan Keena got on the end of a good cross from Callumn Morrison but could only head straight at Pars’ keeeper Fon Williams.

"Anywhere else and it’s a goal,” said Miller

"Aidan's hard on himself though, the fact he's getting in there and getting the chances is pleasing though – I’d be worried if he wasn’t.

"I thought Keena and Dowds worked well together with Callumn Morrison down the right and Leitchy coming in.

"We had some good play going side to side and were unfortunate not to take one.

"We have competition for places in those areas and we’re missing some big players as well at the moment.

"Blair Alston is a massive player for us and so are Charlie Telfer and Aidan Connolly.

“After so long off it’s hard to get back in, you wan’t to give them a pre-season without doing them in and lots of clubs are dealing with niggling injuries."

Finally, Miller commented on transfer business and said the final player he is looking to get in will be a defender to cover at centre back.

"We’re looking and have been close to a few different options but are confident we will get something sorted.”
