Bo’ness United pyramid play-off bid in doubt due to SPFL statement

Uncertainty this week surrounded whether or not Bo’ness United remain on course for a coveted promotion play-off tie with the South of Scotland League champions.

With football on lockdown due to coronavirus and no clarity on if and when it will restart, Bo’ness are nine points clear atop the East of Scotland Premier Division with nine games to play, putting them in prime position to win the title and enter a two-legged clash with the South of Scotland winner for a spot in the Lowland League.

The Lowland League is just one level below the pyramid of the SPFL, who released a statement this week indicating the scrapping of play-offs, meaning the pyramid clash involving the Highland League and Lowland League champions would be scrapped.

This immediately had those of a Bo’ness persuasion concerned that their sterling exploits this season in getting into such a strong position at the top could be in vain.

But an East of Scotland League source told us that, although the SPFL had recommended scrapping pyramid play-offs as part of a series of proposals to be voted on by its 42 clubs by today (Friday), this proposal would have to be voted on by EoS clubs before being introduced at their level.
