Stenhousemuir signed 19-year-old Oliver Shaw on loan from Hibs at the end of last week and the youngster made his debut in Saturday's loss to Queens Park.

The midfielder made a promising start and hopes to use the experience as did Rangers and Scotland striker Kenny Miller who spent a season on loan at Ochilview under Terry Christie from Hibs in the 90s.

Miller was only 17 at the time but made a big impression and Shaw hopes to emulate that.

A Hibee who has been at Easter Road since he was 14, Shaw said: “I was told by people at the club about Kenny coming here and he didn’t do too bad, did he? I made a first team appearance under Alan Stubbs last season, but I have mainly been playing with the under 20s. It was great to play against experienced pros and in a League game that matters and although the score was disappointing I enjoyed the experience.

“I was delighted when the opportunity to come here arose and at the moment the deal is up to the end of the year. I want to use it to improve myself and help Stenny during that time and we will see what transpires after that. The team like to get the ball down and play and that’s also my game, so I am looking forward to playing here.

“I had my first session with the lads on Thursday night and it was good and I will also continue to train with Hibs’ under 20s during the week.”

Manager Brown Ferguson said: “We are delighted to get Oliver until Christmas and we will see how things go. He is a footballer and fits the kind of profile we want at the club.

“He is a promising youngster and I’d hope it will be a mutually beneficial experience.”
