Former Celtic and Stenhousemuir player John Sludden dies aged 56

Former Stenhousemuir striker John Sludden has died at the age of 56.

The New Carron man began his football career as a youth player with Gairdoch United before signing for Celtic.

He also enjoyed spells at St Johnstone, Airdrie, Ayr, Kilmarnock, East Fife, Clydebank and Clyde prior to his move to Ochilview in 1994.

Sludden scored 14 times in 23 appearances for The Warriors.

The dad-of-two then signed for Bo’ness United before hanging up his boots and moving into the dugout at Newton Park.

He also managed Camelon Juniors from 2014 to 2016 and spent two years in charge of East Stirlingshire.

Sludden leaves behind wife Linda and sons Paul and Marc.

Paying tribute, Stenhousemuir tweeted: “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of former player, John Sludden

“John played 23 times for The Warriors during the 1994-95 season, scoring 14 times before moving on to Bo’ness United.
