Ferguson: 'We just need a break to go our way'

But despite the sides’ contrasting League One fortunes so far - Livingston have full points from their two games while Stenhousemuir have lost both theirs - Warriors boss Brown Ferguson believes his side can upset the odds against last season’s Championship outfit.

He said: “They are a full-time and will be regarded as favourites and probably rightly so.

“But all their players have played at this level so we are familiar with them and know what they are capable of and I have no fears about going there.

“It’s the type of game, on a good pitch and in a good stadium, that the players should be up for.”

Stenhousemuir go into the match on the back of six consecutive competitive defeats, although Ferguson feels the fact that pre-season matches involved competitive Betfred Cup games does give a slightly false impression of Stenny’s situation.

He said: “People need to remember that we are just two games into the season and we’re not the only team with no points as yet.

“In our first Betfred games against Queen’s Park we didn’t play well and we were then beaten by Partick Thistle who are a Premier Division side.

“But in every other game we’ve played there has been very little in it and in each one there have been spells where have looked the better team.

“I honestly believe we just need a little break - whether it’s a refereeing decision going this week or not making a silly mistake - and we can turn things around and start putting points on the board.

“Against Queen’s Park on Saturday I thought the first half performance was fine and we deserved to be ahead at half-time.

“We were looking strong but they made a couple of changes and the disappointing thing was that we didn’t deal with that. But I think that’s indicative of the run we’ve been on and to then lose to a 92nd minute winner was a real kick in the teeth.

“Confidence is fine among the players. We just need to be mentally stronger in key parts of games.”
