Falkirk going full steam ahead to Betfred Cup encounter with Kilmarnock

The Bairns were due to take on Edinburgh City in a friendly match tonight (Tuesday, Septmeber 29) but opted not to go ahead with that game and not organise any further pre-season games in order to stay fresh for next week’s visit of Kilmarnock in the Betfred Cup opener.

Speaking to the Falkirk Herald Miller said that he and fellow co-boss David McCracken had seen everything they needed to in the games they have had so far.

He said: “We want to keep the players fresh and good to go and give ourselves a solid week to prepare for Kilmarnock.

“The new players have settled in really well, we’ve seen a lot of good things and a couple of bad things to iron out but that’s what we have these games for.

“We’ve a few niggling injuries but a lot of managers are dealing with that now just with players having been off so long and we’d rather it happens now than the middle of the season.

“Kilmarnock are a well drilled team who play good stuff and have quality players so it will be a difficult task but we’re looking forward to it and will be a good challenge.

“They’ll be ahead of us in terms of fitness but it’s exciting for the boys coming up against a Premier League team and it will be good to test themselves against that standard.”

Meanwhile, Miller is still looking to add two more players to his squad including a goalkeeper and hopes to have a deal done before the Kilmarnock game.

He said: “There are couple of things we’re working on and hopefully we will be able to get them sorted before the Kilmarnock game on Tuesday.

“It’s been difficult to get players in during this period of time.

“We’ve no trialists in now but we’re still looking to bring in one more player other than a goalie.”

After the Kilmarnock match the Bairns have just a two day break before going straight in to their next fixture away to rivals Dunfermline on Friday night.

That is then followed up the following Tuesday night at home to Clyde with their final group came away to Dumbarton coming in November.

“I’ve not even thought about the Dunfermline game to be honest,” said Miller.

“It’s a derby and these games will take care of themselves, you just have to take every game as it comes,

“We’ll enjoy the challenge and have the boys well drilled.

“We’re looking to do well in these games but the main thing is coming through unscathed.

“It will also be good to get a wee taster of what Clyde and Dumbarton are capable of this season before facing them later on in the league.”
