Peter Houston felt sorry for his players after falling to a 1-0 defeat at Dumbarton.

A late stunner from Archie Campbell sealed the points for the Sons and forced the Bairns to wait at least until Tuesday if not longer, to leapfrog Queen of the South.

“The pressure would be all on them in that case, albeit they’d have a game in hand over us.

“But I’m desparately disappointed for the players because they put a lot into the game and we were dominating the second half.

“The first half was a non-event because of the wind but it was the same for both sides.

“The goal was one that was worthy of winning matches like these. We actually think the ball was played out for the throw-in by their player but I can’t fault the players. They have brought a 12 point gap down to one and there are more twists to come.”

The Bairns play Cowdenbeath tomorrow night at The Falkirk Stadium.
