Falkirk hope to sign Hearts centre-back Jordan McGhee before the transfer window closes on Thursday night.
The Scotland Under-21 defender is fit again after an ankle problem and is keen to play regularly this season.
He featured three times in Hearts' Betfred Cup campaign during July but could leave Tynecastle in the next 24 hours if both clubs reach an agreement.
Falkirk manager Peter Houston is keen to recruit a central defender and believes McGhee would fit his style of play in the Ladbrokes Championship.
McGhee, whose Hearts contract expires in January, spent last season on loan to Middlesbrough but returned to Edinburgh when the English club decided against a permanent move.
The 21-year-old feels he is at a stage in his career where he must play and is willing to explore all options.
