Scott Bain signs new Falkirk contract as Scotland World Cup hopeful commits to longer-term deal
Scott Bain signs new Falkirk contract as Scotland World Cup hopeful’s ‘longer-term’ deal is hailed by boss.
Scott Bain says that the opportunity to extend his Falkirk stay was a “no-brainer” after the former Celtic goalkeeper penned a longer-term contract with the Bairns on Friday.
The Scotland World Cup hopeful has impressed since joining John McGlynn’s newly-promoted side, swiftly establishing himself as the No 1 and going on to start every Scottish Premiership outing so far this season. His form earned a recall by Steve Clarke to the national team after a six-and-half year absence.
And Bain’s club future has now been sorted out with the stopper previously free to sign for another club come the summer, with his initial Falkirk contract only lasting 12 months.
Scott Bain says staying at Falkirk was ‘no-brainer’
“I am delighted to sign this extension at the club,” the goalkeeper beamed. “It was a no brainer for me and my family, I’m really enjoying life here, and I love working with everyone at the club, the players, and the manager. The way I see the game and the way I enjoy playing the game is the same as how the manager wants to play so I love the way we are on the park. I’m just taking it step-by-step, the same way we do on the pitch, and hopefully we can continue to have success both individually and as a team.”
Falkirk manager McGlynn hailed Bain’s impact since joining the Bairns - and said that the longer-term deal is “great news” for the club.
He said: “First and foremost, he’s a top goalkeeper, and he’s helped our defence immensely. He’s brought a real calmness to the back line and to the team as a whole, and he’s also an excellent character off the pitch. He’s been very good in the dressing room, bringing a lot of knowledge from his time at Celtic, where he worked at a high level for a number of years. He’s learned a great deal, and our players are already benefiting from that, and will continue to do so going forward.
“Everyone on the staff is absolutely delighted we’ve been able to get Scott tied down on this longer-term deal, and I’d like to thank the board of directors for making sure we could get it over the line. It’s a huge plus for everyone involved. To say we’re pleased to have signed Scott Bain on a longer-term contract would be an understatement. It’s great news – huge news. He’s been outstanding from the minute he walked into the football club.”
