Steven Pressley wants clarity on the decision that gave Dumbarton the lead on Saturday – and denied Lyle Taylor another goal two weeks ago.

The Bairns lost captain Darren Dods to a red card in the 66th minute of the defeat to Dumbarton when he was penalised for grappling with Sons striker Jim Lister. The striker still managed to make an attempt that sneaked just past the post before play was pulled back for Scott Agnew to score the spot-kick.

It is a similar scenario to one in the Cowdenbeath match when Taylor scored, but ref Euan Robertson chalked the goal off and pointed to the spot where Stewart Murdoch duly delivered.

But Pressley pleaded: “Please somebody tell me what rules as they currently are – because the penalty kick was a big moment in the game.

“You either blow for the foul and give the penalty or you let the play happen. It can’t be two shots at it, so please someone tell me the consistency and what the rule is.”

Dods was sent off in the incident and will automatically miss Saturday’s trip to Hamilton and the visit of Morton for his second red in the competition. Stewart Murdoch’s accumulation of bookings also rules him out on January 12.
